DETAILED ITINERARY

PART 1: THE WETLANDS & DRY ZONE — BUNDALA & TISSA (DAY 1–4)

DAY 1

Arrival & Muthurajawela Wetlands

Arrive at CMB Airport. Transfer to Negombo. Afternoon boat safari through the Muthurajawela Wetlands to spot water birds, kingfishers, and migrant waders.

DAY 2–3

Bundala National Park

Transfer south to Bundala, Sri Lanka's premier RAMSAR wetland site. Two full days exploring for greater flamingos, painted storks, and over 200 migratory species. Evening birding sessions at Tissa Wewa lake.

DAY 4

Yala Block 5 Special Birding

Special access birding session in the less-visited Yala Block 5, known for raptors and forest birds. Afternoon transfer to hill country.

PART 2: THE RAINFOREST CANOPY — SINHARAJA & KITULGALA (DAY 5–10)

DAY 5–7

Sinharaja Deep Birding

Three days dedicated to Sinharaja's endemic birds. Track mixed-species flocks, photograph the Sri Lanka Blue Magpie, spot the elusive Sri Lanka Frogmouth, and document all 33 endemic species found in this World Heritage rainforest.

DAY 8–9

Kitulgala Rainforest

Transfer to Kitulgala for lowland rainforest birding. Search for the Chestnut-backed Owlet, Sri Lanka Hanging Parrot, and Layard's Parakeet. Night walks for owls and nightjars.

DAY 10

Departure

Dawn chorus walk before departure. Final morning birding session. Transfer to CMB Airport (approx. 2.5 hours). Farewell with your birding checklist compilation.
